I am a 30 something male working in the
I am 5-11 and weigh about 195. I would like to get down to 185 in the near future.
I have always been athletic but am just as happy reading a science fiction book at home.
I lettered in track and wrestling although I don't do either any more.
I started in computers when I was 18 and it was like a duck to water. It took quite a few years before I figured out how to make a decent living with my computer inclination but eventually I got if figured out and am now reasonably successful.
I was married for 8 years and during that time I had 3 beautiful children. Jennifer, Ashley and Joseph. They adore me and I adore them. Unfortunately they live in Utah so I spend a fair amount of time and money shuttling back and forth to see them. I was divorced in 1990.

I enjoy Biking, Hiking, and Reading and yes programming. Currently I am also looking for my romantic partner.
I like both road and mountain biking but since I normally ride with women friends I have lately been doing mostly road riding. I would rather ride than hike but there are some places only hiking can take you. I really like mountain biking but it is harder to find people who are the same level of rider. It seems like when mountain biking I always end up with people who are in a lot better shape than me or who are in a lot worse shape than me. I end up doing more group riding on the road where it is easier for a wider range of people to keep up with each other and most of my mountain biking alone but I still have hopes of finding just the right group of people to mountain bike with.
I watch some
television but don't even have the cable hooked up right now. I find that I
spend too much time in front of the tube when I have the good cable. I
generally like to watch a good movie when I do sit down at the television
although sometimes I want to watch the news instead of getting it from the
radio.
I also Scuba
dive although now days I do mostly snorkeling. You can still swim down to 25
feet with only a snorkel you just can't stay as long. Snorkeling is nice
because everything needed can be packed in a small bag which is light enough to
carry on. Diving requires a lot more logistical support and unless you are
going to get to do several dives it just isn't worth the extra hassle.
Kayaking is one of my favorites. I have been
trained in Ocean kayaking up through advanced class surf entry and exit. I
really like kayaking it can be one of the most rewarding sports I have participated
in. I particularly like moonlight paddling which can be incredibly romantic. I
also find playing in the white zone of the surf fun although it is like the
difference between playing basketball and a candlelight dinner they are both
fun but for different reasons. Kayaking is one of those few sports that seems
to speak to every part of my mind and soul. As a result of Kayaking I have
become interested in other small boat activities. Now I would like to learn to
sail small yachts and even more immediate I would like to learn to sailboard
which looks even more fun than Kayaking.
I have to admit
that I have been doing more working than playing lately but expect this to
level out by Jan and then I will be able to get back to more fun activities.
I still enjoy programming and continue to
program even though it is not necessarily the best use of my time. I find that
staying very technical helps to guide my employees and to keep people honest. I
still find it fascinating to learn a new technology or methodology and then
bring it in to my organization and get real value out of it.

The kinds of magazines/newspapers/books I read:
I am an avid reader of science fiction. I also read adventure, historical my favorite author wrote the intelligent ship series.
I read a lot a lot of Biography and technical computer things to keep up with the changing industry. The Biography stuff is normally around companies and their CEO especially the successful ones.
I read Forbes, Businessweek, popular science, Dr Dobbs, etc. Some pc-week, computer news, etc.
I attended High school in Ogden Utah and College at several different locations mostly in Utah. I have learned most of what I use on a daily basis while on the Job. College gave me a base to learn from but had little practical benefit that I have been able to manager. My favorite course was intermediate basketball which had nothing to do with my major. Since college I have continued my education in many areas using self studies and a significant investment in courses and conferences.
I
work as the CEO of Coherity, Inc which used to be PyBiz, Inc. I
used work as an R&D manager at Hewlett Packard. I manage group of about 40
most of who are also my friends. I also do some of the harder architectural
design work and have been known to do some direct implementation when needed. I
enjoy what I am doing and my group is having a larger impact that I ever
imagined possible. See: Work Information
Where I want to be in 5 years.
In 5 to 6 years
if all goes well I should have made enough in stock options to retire from the
software business including software development. When I do this I would like
to move to a remote location and teach scuba diving. Once I have sufficient
resources acquired from software business management I may just go back to
engineering full time but write what ever I am interested in rather than what
is necessary due to market drivers.
