Everything and
anything you ever wanted to know about web and Internet protocols can be found
at www.w3c.com. I have won many arguments with slimy salesmen by
being able to refer them back to w3c specifications. In my mind they have done
more to facilitate the healthy growth of the Internet and web than any other
single entity including Microsoft and Netscape. These guys are the ones that
help keep the rest honest. Of course Linux also helps
keep honesty in the field.
www.hotbot.com is
my favorite search engine. Not nearly as popular as www.yahoo.com but when I can't find it on yahoo I normally can find
it on hotbot. Yahoo gives better-filtered results but
hotbot gives more of them. I also like http://www.asksam.com/
Python advocacy. I think Python represents an optimal mix of the
dynamic capabilities we originally found in Smalltalk and Logo with the best of
the object oriented features from Smalltalk and C++. I would generally rather
write in Python than Java but there are always exceptions.
